About the Easyboot Bare
Patents Pending
Mimicking the Natural Hoof:
The ÒBareÓ has been a huge success in 2006. Although it is alittle harder to apply than the standard Easyboot Epic, the Bareprovides a simple, close-fitting boot that constantly adjusts to thehoof. The boot is designed to stretch and flex, mimicking the movementsof the naturally bare hoof. Check out the 2007 model with the lowerprofile comfort strap, thicker bungee and improved rivets.
Rising to the challenge, the Bare was used in 2006 by twohorse and rider teams to successfully complete the 400KM Shazadaendurance event in Australia. In addition, it has successfullycompleted several 100mile and 250mile endurance events in extremeconditions on barefoot horses. Not only did the Bare boots stay inplace, they did not rub, twist or turn. The results are even moreimpressive considering many of the test miles were completed in deep,boot-sucking mud and snow.

Easyboot Bare Fitting
Adjusting the Easyboot Bare bungee system:The bungee system is designed to be adjusted before the boot is appliedto the hoof. You want the bungee in the tightest position that willstill allow you to apply the boot. Start with the bungee in the centerposition (the boots come standard in this configuration). It may benecessary for you to loosen the bungee for the first one or two uses. After applying the Easyboot Bare for the first time, try to slide theflat edge of a hoof pick between the hoof and the front of the boot. Ifyou can slide the edge of the hoof pick between the hoof and the frontof the boot, remove boot and adjust bungee on one or both sides of theboot to the next notch. Continue process until you can no longer slidethe flat end of the hoof pick between the hoof and the front of theboot.

Adjusting Bungee: Remove side screw. Slidemetal plate into the desired hole position. Tighten screw.

Putting on the Easyboot Bare: Loop the 3/4"nylon webbing pull-strap around the inside back (heel) strap. Foldthe gaiter back and hold it and the pull-strap out of the way whilefitting the boot over the toe. Pick up the horseÕs leg and support itbetween your knees (as if you were picking the hoof) so that you canuse two hands when applying the boot. Place the boot over the horseÕstoe and using a slight back and forth twisting motion, slide the booton the rest of the way. You can also put the foot down on the groundand allow the horse to put weight into it. DonÕt use the gaiter to pullthe boot on.

Using a rubber mallet: If you are unable toget the boot to stretch enough to slide it on, a couple taps with arubber mallet at the toe area will usually do the trick.
A properly applied boot: The inside backstrap is designed to fit snugly, low around the quarters, belowthe hairline, and below the heel bulbs. You can pull it intoposition with the included nylon pull-strap, then slide the pull-strapout once the back strap is in proper position. If the horse has a verylow heel, make sure the back strap is not pulled out of its position,or in any way allowed to abrade a low heel. Horses with low heels mayrequire the back strap to be cut down a notch or two to avoidchafing near the heel bulbs. Do not use the boot if any portion of theback strap is above the hairline or touching sensitive skin. You willneed to slide your finger in the back of the boot to make sure the backstrap is not touching sensitive skin.

Fastening the Easyboot Bare Gaiter: Fasten theGaiter next. Pull the top of the Gaiter tight around the pastern.Fasten the hook and loop straps.

Removing the Easyboot Bare: The easiest wayto remove a properly fitted Easyboot Bare is to use a flat-headscrewdriver. Unfasten the Gaiter straps. Next, place the screwdriverinside the boot, between the boot and the hoof at the quarters. Wedgethe screwdriver under the hoof to pry the boot off. You may have towork both sides of the boot for easier removal.
Adjusting the back strap: The width andlength of the hoof determines the correct size Easyboot Bare, but thelength of the back strap can also be a factor. If the back strapin a properly sized boot is too long for your horseÕs hoofconformation, it can be replaced with a smaller strapÑjust remove theback strap and side clips with a screwdriver, and replace with the newback strap available from EasyCare.
